Fear
Fear makes us go around in circles. Deliberately avoiding those moments of recognition where we have an opportunity to embark on a different movement. Fear compels us to make the same mistakes often enough that we believe it is impossible for the world to be any different. Fear diverts our attention away from what we need to look at in order to learn. It prevents us from seeing reality clearly and infects our imagination. Instead of facing the difficult or painful aspects of our lives, we turn away and occupy our minds with other things. Distractions. Fear makes us forgetful of our pain. It hides it underneath layers of denial so that we cannot easily contact it and learn from it. Fear leads us into a spiral of ignorance where – although our actions are rooted in fear – we convince ourselves that what is "wrong" is a fault of the world and not our own unwillingness to look at our fear. It taints every aspect of our lives which touch the area where our fear is buried. If it is a deep fear we want to depart from it all the quicker. But we can never run away from it: we only spiral out of control until at some point we break down from all the running.
Fear breaks us when we try to hide from it.
Until we stop believing that fear can make us do anything. We have the option of stopping, turning and staring it in the eye. We can see whether our actions are perpetuating the cycle of avoiding fear or helping us break free from it.
Then begins the healing.
