Wholeness
The third and last recorded dialogue Tony Dias and I had in the autumn circles around wholeness, the nature of reality, participatory culture and what it means to craft space. It follows from our dialogues on practice and craft, and together these interactions approach what I feel is an outline of what a ‘sustainable’ culture might be like. And yet, the word sustainable doesn’t make much sense within our dialogues. So I use it simply as a signpost for others to follow. As with all of our dialogues we are speaking in terms which are liquid, in the sense that the concepts – the language itself – are in the midst of creation. But by now a lot of our mutual signposts have stabilised into a shared vocabulary. These dialogues are a way of facing our conditioning without reproducing it by entering a kind of mutual stumbling reflection on our own thought process. While it is at times difficult to articulate something straight on, and we may still sometimes be projecting on each other, we are finding a way to think together. It has been of the highest value to have this chance to meet Tony in firstlife and experience the depth of communication that online interactions just don’t provide. So, what is left to close this trilogy is to say: thank you, Tony.
